NEUROPATHY: REDUCING THE RISK, EASING THE PAIN
spacer
First, the bad news: Up to 70% of people with diabetes will eventually develop diabetic peripheral neuropathy, a type of nerve damage that can cause tingling, numbness, pain, and other uncomfortable sensations in the hands, legs, feet, and arms. But fortunately, developing this condition is not inevitable, and if you already have it, there are ways to make it more manageable. To find out who is at risk for diabetic peripheral neuropathy, how doctors screen for the condition, what the treatment options are, and more, see this week's Article of the Week, "Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy," by diabetes educator Laura Hieronymus and Dr. James Borders.

Have questions about how much carbohydrate you should eat for optimum health and diabetes control? Trying a low-carb diet to help with your blood glucose levels? Then you'll also want to read nurse David Spero's recent piece, "How Low is Low Carb?", in which he attempts to get to the bottom of this complicated issue.

Finally, if the arrival of spring has you hankering for a dish fresh off the grill, be sure to try our tangy sesame-ginger grilled salmon recipe. This entrée is chock-full of heart-healthy fats and contains just 7 grams of carbohydrate per serving!

Best,
